ex tomb Raider Writer Lyanna Pratchett has said she wants Laura Croft to have less father problems in the next game.
Pratchett recently spoke to Eurogamer at this week’s BAFTA Awards, where she talked about her thoughts on remaking the character and what she’d like to see from Laura Croft in the future . “We had a lot of fun evolving her character, so I’d like to see maybe fewer father issues,” Pratchett said. “That’s from me!”
A rather understandable sentiment, because it would be nice if one of the game’s most recognizable female characters didn’t have to revolve her character around her father’s issues.
Pratchett went on to say, “I love seeing her come out on her own and be happy with what she’s doing. Because when we wrote the reboot, she was really becoming a Tomb Raider. So she was like proto – Tomb Raider. All the qualities you associate with Tomb Raider, like tenacity, bravery, resourcefulness, come to her.”
The video game writer would also like to see more funky words for the character, since Laura Croft wasn’t quite there yet when Pratchett wrote the character.
During Epic Games’ State of Unreal presentation earlier this week, it was revealed that Crystal Dynamics is working on a new Tomb Raider game, using Unreal Engine 5. Crystal Dynamics was the developer of the first two Tomb Raider reboots, but the third game in the series, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, was entrusted to Eidos-Montreal.
Little is known about the new game at the moment, other than the engine it’s being made on, so it’s one of those classic “we’re making it but barely telling you anything about it” announcements.
