GPU prices continue to fall in April.
This year, the prices for new graphics cards have already fallen significantly. This downward slide continues in April, as our current analysis shows.
As early as March, some models came quite close to the EIA. A high-end graphics card and a low-end GPU from AMD now reach their recommended retail price. With Nvidia’s models, we are even further away from the RRP, even if the prices have also fallen here.
For our analysis, we divided current graphics cards into five performance classes and one representative model each on the comparison platform Geizhals.de picked out.
In the high-end segment, the prices from both manufacturers have fallen by several hundred dollars compared to the previous month. Gigabyte’s RTX 3090 is now available for just under 2,000 dollars, which of course is still a lot of money. The Radeon 6900 XT from XFX, on the other hand, arrives at the MSRP specified by AMD at 1,099 dollars.

Of course, the surcharge on the RRP for the models shown above has also fallen or has almost completely disappeared:

RTX 3080 (10 GB) and RX 6800 XT: The prices are falling, but the RRP is still a long way off
In this performance class, the RTX 3080 (10 GB) from MSI has been available for just under 1,000 dollars for a long time. The RX 6800 XT from XFX is even cheaper. Both cards are still around 250 dollars above the RRP:

When it comes to the surcharge on the RRP, the two models are very close and are just over or under 30 percent:

RTX 3070 and RX 6700 XT: AMD is also closer to the RRP in this performance class
You can get the RTX 3070 from Gainward in April for less than 700 dollars. That’s still around 150 more than the RRP, but a better price than the 862 dollars from the previous month. At AMD, the RX 6700 XT from XFX has dropped 150 dollars in price compared to the previous month.

However, neither of the two cards come close to the RRP in this price range. Until then, it is still almost 20 percent for AMD and almost 30 percent for Nvidia.

RTX 3060 and RX 6600 XT: Both models for well under 500 dollars
The RTX 3060 cost well over 500 dollars last month. The Gainward model is now available for just under 450 dollars. But there is still a little missing from the RRP. The RX 6600 XT from XFX is a little closer to this, even if it costs a little more in dollars at 470 dollars:

The RTX 3060 is actually the top-of-the-line model this month (on a negative note) at 36 percent over MSRP. AMD’s counterpart is better at 24 percent above the RRP, but it’s not impressive either.

RTX 3050 and RX 6500 XT: The low-end card from AMD is available at an RRP
In the cheapest performance segment, Nvidia has broken through the 300 euro threshold. You can get the RTX 3050 from Asus from around 280 dollars. The RX 6500 XT, on the other hand, has arrived at its RRP with a price of 209 dollars:

The AMD model has reached the MSRP, but the RTX 3050 is also clearly closer at 15 percent above the recommended price than it was four weeks ago:

Conclusion: We are getting closer and closer to the RRP
The last few months have seen only one direction for graphics card prices: down. AMD’s first cards hit their MSRPs with some models this month, and we’re hoping for more to follow.
Overall, Nvidia is even further away from the RRP than its competitor in percentage terms, but here too prices are currently falling month by month. If this trend continues, we could soon see the first RTX models at recommended retail prices.
