Season 3 of The Mandalorian is coming. At the moment, the only question is when exactly. Now the actor Giancarlo Esposito would like to know the answer: The new episodes about Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and Grogu are scheduled to start on Disney Plus in the summer of 2022.

But why you shouldn’t get excited too soon and which possible start date is much more realistic, we tell you in this article. By the way, you can read about what new TV series from the Star Wars universe await you in the near future on Disney Plus in our large overview:

Don’t look forward to more Mando too soon…

Season start already in summer 2022? According to Giancarlo Esposito, Season 3 of The Mandalorian is set to launch on Disney Plus in the coming months. The Moff Gideon actor reveals this during an appearance in the Rich Iron Show. According to Esposito, the time has come in the summer of this year – but he does not reveal a specific date.

What speaks against it: However, we don’t think it’s realistic that the third season of The Mandalorian will be released in summer 2022. In fact, there are a few good reasons why the new Din Djarin episodes shouldn’t be coming to Disney Plus until later this year:

  • Season 3 not ready soon: The shooting of the new episodes were ended in March 2022. This would not leave enough time for post-production, which usually takes up to six months, to finalize season 3 by summer 2022.
  • Other TV series in the starting blocks: Kenobi will start on May 27, 2022, followed by Andor. And the planned release of the MCU series Ms. Marvel on June 8, 2022 would also stand in the way of a release during this period.
  • Did Esposito make a mistake? It cannot be ruled out that Giancarlo Esposito is wrong with his release forecast. The actor from productions like The Boys or Better Call Saul may be referring to the potential release date of a trailer.

Release at the end of 2022 much more likely: Given the circumstances, it would make a lot more sense if Season 3 of The Mandalorian didn’t launch on Disney Plus until late 2022. That would leave enough time for post-production of the new episodes and also for the other Star Wars and Marvel series.

There will be answers very soon: The Star Wars Celebration 2022 will take place from May 26th to 29th. The Mandalorian should get its own exhibition panel, in the course of which we will learn more about the future of the Star Wars series. Fans can almost certainly look forward to a first trailer and release date on this date.
