NVIDIA’s lineup of graphics cards is confusing to say the least, not within a single generation. If not for the fact that in stores you can find several graphics cards, of different generations and for the same price. Well, after a long wait and after a message that was not entirely clear, NVIDIA finally gave us a ranking of RTX according to performance.
There is no denying that the range of graphics cards that NVIDIA currently covers all types of users, not to say pockets, however, when you have two generations available on store shelves where there are several almost overlapping graphics cards in power and price is when to choose the most suitable to mount on our computer.
And let’s be honest, no one likes making the wrong choice and ending up with less capable hardware. When we could have bought something much better for the same amount. Unfortunately, NVIDIA has never been very clear about the performance of its RTX 30 and RTX 20 at the same time. Yes, we can tell within the same generation, but with the release of the RTX 3050, things had become much more confusing, especially on the last generations.
Where is your favorite graphics card in the RTX ranking?
Do you have an NVIDIA RTX 20 and have you considered getting an RTX 30 to upgrade your gear? Well if you don’t know which model to choose to gain performance and you don’t want to make a mistake in your choice, then you’re in luck. Since then, NVIDIA has finally decided to reveal the performance of its last two generations of graphics cards and has ordered them in an ordinal fashion.
At the top of the table, no surprise, dominated by the RTX 30, from the RTX 3070 to the RTX 3090 Ti. However, the RTX 2080 Ti sits above the 3060 Ti. Which surprises us because of the proximity of the two graphics cards with GeForce Ampère architecture. Instead, it’s in the lower ranges that we see more movement. Between the 3060 and the 3060 Ti, would be the rest of the top of the range of the previous generation, since the RTX 2070 SUPER and the RTX 2080 SUPER.
Although for us the surprise is to see the RTX 3050 fall short of any of the RTX 20 and only surpass the GTX 16. A performance that honestly with the time that has passed seems disappointing to us. And it is that if we take into account the performance per euro invested, we find that from generation to generation NVIDIA graphics cards have not improved much if we speak under this metric. And it is that in recent years we have been able to see how much, regardless of the mining phenomenon, the recommended retail price of graphics cards has not stopped increasing, under the argument of ever higher performance. Faced with the RTX 40, we expect more of a similar treatment. That is to say a higher performance, but also a substantial increase in price.
