Reveal of Modern Warfare 2 apparently closer than expected

Apparently, closer, Expected, Modern, reveal, Warfare

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 is likely to be revealed sooner than we’ve been used to in recent years. The leaker and CoD insider Ralph reports on Twitter. He posted a graphic with a countdown and the appointment: 30. April 2022.

Ralph is considered a reliable source in the CoD community and has often been correct in his predictions in the past. Since his statements cannot be checked independently, you should still treat the information with a dose of caution.

  • What is revealed? So far it is unclear what will really be shown on April 30th. According to Ralph himself, the date is explicitly not the Reveal date. This suggests that these will be the first teasers, which, like in recent years, will probably take place as an in-game event in Warzone.
  • When is gameplay available? In a second tweet, Ralph writes that the real reveal is scheduled for May 2022. Then there should probably be a real trailer, more concrete details about the game and in-game scenes.
  • What do we already know? We have already collected a lot of information about the setting around Colombian drug cartels, the new DMZ multiplayer mode and the new Battle Royale from various reliable insider sources. Here you can find the complete overview:

What we know about MW2 so far

Revealing Modern Warfare 2 this early in the year would be a big break from previous years, as both Vanguard and Black Ops: Cold War were only officially unveiled in August. It was different with Modern Warfare, whose first trailer was released in May 2019.

Since CoD 2022 will be a direct successor and of course should also build on the groundbreaking success of MW2019, Activision could repeat the timing and marketing strategy from back then. In this respect, Ralph’s forecasts sound quite realistic.

MW2 marks a major upheaval

After all, a lot depends on the title: In 2023, for the first time in almost two decades, there will be no new CoD part. Instead, they want to continue to provide Modern Warfare 2 with content and extend the life cycle. Of course, this also increases the pressure to succeed on the new CoD.

Not only the new DMZ mode, which is copied a lot from Escape from Tarkov or Hunt Showdown, but also a restart of the Battle Royale should contribute to a long service life:

Incidentally, in my column I explain in more detail why and how the farewell to the 12-month rhythm under the Microsoft flag could lead the CoD brand to a golden future

In any case, one thing is certain: Two enormous tasks weigh on the shoulders of Infinity Ward. To repeat Modern Warfare’s financial record and rebuild CoD into a longer-term service game.
