- You can find out everything about Vecna here.
On May 27th the time has finally come. Then the long-awaited fourth season of the mystery series “Stranger Things” starts on Netflix. Yesterday, an extra-long trailer set the mood for the new episodes of the show. The video presents the first glimpse of the new, big and utterly terrifying one villain Vecna.
Find out everything we already know about the antagonist below.
“Stranger Things” Season 4: Vecna appears several times in the trailer
Vecna stars at the beginning, middle and very end of the latest Stranger Things trailer. First, the monster speaks and says, “You’ve ruined everything. It’s time your suffering ended.” Then it opens its eyes…
So, unlike the Demogorgon from Seasons 1 & 2 and the Mind Flayer from Season 3, Vecna can talk. The monster also looks humanoid.
Later, towards the end of the trailer, Max (Sadie Sink) appears to be running away from Vecna.
And at the very end there is a full view of the monster:
“Stranger Things” Season 4: That’s how we know Vecna’s name
Incidentally, the “Stranger Things” makers Matt and Ross Duffer revealed the name “Vecna” themselves in an interview with the website IGN. In addition, the 2nd episode of the 4th season also bears the title “Vecna’s Curse”as previously announced.
Stranger Things Season 4: Vecna appears in the role-playing game Dungeons & Dragons
All “Stranger Things” villains name the kids around Mike, Dustin and Co. after villains from the fantasy role-playing game “Dungeons & Dragons”, which also appears prominently in the Netflix series.
In “Dungeons & Dragons” Vecna is an undead mage, but the “Stranger Things” series will probably not stick too strictly to this model. The Duffer brothers, who make the series, also told IGN that they were inspired by the monsters and horror icons Freddie Krueger, Pinhead and Pennywise for Vecna.
“Stranger Things” season 4: Vecna has a connection to “Game of Thrones”
Incidentally, Barrie Gower, the practical effects artist behind Vecna, was also responsible for the terrifying look of the Night King in the epic fantasy series Game of Thrones.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Speculation: Is Vecna Linked To Billy — Or Is It Victor Creel?
Unfortunately, we don’t know more about Vecna at the moment. The rest is speculation. So some fans and viewers of “Stranger Things” suspect that Billy, who died at the end of Season 3, could somehow be connected to Vecna. Maybe he takes on Billy’s physical form to hunt down his victims in the Upside Down (or “our world”)?
With Victor Creel, on the other hand, Freddy Krueger actor Robert Englund appears for the first time in the 4th “Stranger Things” season. In the world of the series, Creel murdered his family and has been in a mental institution for decades.
The kids from the series also visit his former house in the trailer, which has mutated into a veritable haunted house after the murders. But did Vecna somehow have his claws involved in Victor Creel’s murders? Is the monster the reason Creel removed his own eyes? All of these questions can only be answered by the forthcoming fourth season of the Netflix series.
