A few days ago, Patch 4.0, the latest update for Battlefield 2042, was released. With several hundred often smaller changes, the patch has a lot to offer, but was not particularly well received by the community. The reason for this is that a large part of the changes are bug fixes that many players would have expected shortly after the release.
Attentive players and dataminers have now found out that the update does not just contain a possible date for Season 1 hidden, but also many other changes that are not mentioned in the patch notes. All official changes can be found here:

Patch 4.0 delivers an absolutely mandatory feature
When does season 1 start?
The developers themselves speak of a release of the first season early summer
, but an exact date has not yet been given. In the latest patch, the well-known Battlefield dataminer Temporyal has now found weekly missions for eight more weeks before the release of the season. It means that no earlier than June 16, 2022 expect the new content.

However, this date is far from fixed. More missions could follow with the next update in May, or the developers could decide to simply postpone the season even further. That would be highly risky, however, as Battlefield has only recently hit a new low in terms of player count on Steam, so new content is urgently needed:

What else is in Patch 4.0?
But the Battlefield community was also able to discover some things that were not announced with the release of Update 4.0. On Reddit, players have over 100 changes collected that could not be found in the patch notes. We list some of the most notable improvements and changes here:
- Destruction effects have been partially improved
- Added additional zip lines on the Manifest map
- Mouse and controller controls have been improved
- Improved the appearance of skyscrapers on the Hourglass map
- Added new melee animations for Portal
- Free look around in third person view is now possible in vehicles
- New animation for marking locations or enemies
- New voicelines for tagging enemies and items
All other hidden changes can be found in the Reddit post we embedded here:

However, as this is a fan-generated list, we cannot guarantee that all items are accurate. However, a DICE developer points out that some of the changes listed were completed earlier but didn’t make it into previous patches and therefore don’t appear in the patch notes. At least part of it seems so secret
changes to be real.
For many players, all patches and bug fixes come too late and cannot undo the disappointment of the latest Battlefield. Even Battlefield player Phil prefers to spend his time in the anything but perfect World War 3. In the podcast we also talk about why many big service games fail:
