Everyone is talking about the next Need For Speed once again!
A lot of information has been falling for some time about the next Need For Speed, which is expected for late 2022, early 2023. Developed by Criterion Games, the creators of the Burnout saga, the title is set to play primarily in the city of Chicago According to various rumours What we didn’t know, however, is that another legendary studio is also calling the shots: Codemasters Cheshire. In fact, it’s Pete Johnson, Senior Recruiter at Electronic Arts, who is making the announcement today.
What better way to start the week than by sharing some details about an exciting opportunity at Codemasters Cheshire Studio, but also the future of the studio itself!? (…) Codemasters Cheshire will be collaborating with Criterion Games to shape the future of Need for Speed. Beginning with the next Need for Speed title and expanding into future initiatives, Codemasters Cheshire will work with Criterion on the creative, technical and functional execution in service of the vision outlined in the Need for Speed strategy. Pete Johnson, Senior Recruiter at EA
So as you can see To expedite development of the next Need For Speed, Criterion Games is now backed by Codemasters Cheshire. But that’s not all, if we take a closer look at Pete Johnson’s statement, we also learn that this studio could also be the future of the saga.
But who is Codemasters Cheshire?
Before becoming Codemasters Cheshire, the Cheshire-based development house in England was known as Evolution Studios. If that developer doesn’t tell you anything, you know it is him at the origin of all WRC games released between 2001 and 2005, but that’s mostly it behind the flagship MotorStorm license. A franchise that made the PlayStation 3 famous.
Unfortunately, despite the success of the first part, MotorStorm Pacific Rift and MotorStorm Apocalypse, the formerly Sony-owned studio misses the mark with DRIVECLUB, an arcade game that is highly regarded today but had many flaws when it was launched in 2014 . After the disappointment of selling that project, the studio closed its doors before being bought by Codemasters in 2016 to develop Onrush and then DiRT 5. Today, with Codemasters in the hands of Electronic Arts, Evolution Studios will be renamed Codemasters Cheshire and become the new king of the Need For Speed saga.
