With a view to the upcoming new generations of graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD in the form of the RTX 4000 and RX 7000, one question in particular arises: will they, like the RTX 3000 and RX 6000, once again hardly be available and will therefore be so expensive that they can be used by mere mortals can only afford if they butcher their piggy bank?
So far, we have assumed that the prices for the current generations of the Geforce and Radeon series can actually reach the level of the recommended retail price, but that the upcoming new models will be significantly higher again. You can find out what prompted us to make this assessment in our forecast.
Now, however, there is hopethat we will also be able to buy RTX 4000 and RX 7000 at least close to the RRP. This comes from a report by market analysts Counterpoint Research out. Accordingly, the delivery situation for PC components should ease significantly in the second half of 2022:
RTX 4000 and RX 7000: Which speaks for prices close to the RRP
According to Counterpoint Research, demand for graphics chips will exceed supply by around ten percent for the entire year. However, that was already the case at the end of 2021. Nevertheless, since December we have observed a continuous decline in the prices of the RTX 3000 and RX 6000.
At the same time, the experts assume that the demand for the important ABF substrates, which are required for the production of printed circuit boards for both CPUs and GPUs, is or will be saturated. In complete contrast to a report from the end of 2021, which predicted a shortage until 2026:
Tight graphics cards
Why the chip crisis could last another half decade
This is how we assess the situation
In our opinion, Counterpoint Research’s forecasts do indeed sound promising. Should they prove correct, it is realistic that the RTX 4000 and RX 7000 will enter the market close to the MSRP from the outset and stay there.
Well available: RTX cards at Amazon
Nevertheless, we only advise cautious anticipation. Because there are some uncertain factors, for example the development with a view to the war in Ukraine. Important resources for the production of chips, such as precious metals, rare earths and energy, come from both Ukraine and Russia. In addition, the cryptocurrencies could theoretically play a greater role again and, as a result, the demand for graphics cards could be higher than expected.
What do you all mean? Will we actually end up seeing the RTX 4000 and RX 7000 at least close to RRP? Or do you expect drastic increases in graphics card prices again? Write it to us in the comments!
