Rogue Legacy 2 best class choice and how to unlock classes explained

Choice, Class, Classes, explained, Legacy, Rogue, Unlock

Choose between Rogue Legacy 2 Classes can be a bit overwhelming with so many options available.

To play a certain class, you must first unlock it with gold coins. Even then, you can’t just choose the same character for each run, as you only get three random classes drawn from what you’ve unlocked.

You’re not always guaranteed to get a certain one, but this guide will cover the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2 for general gameplay and boss fights.

How important are classes in Rogue Legacy 2?

As the game follows a roguelite formula, you must choose a class at the start of each game. However, only three random options of your unlocked classes are available.

Picking one of the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2 can often prolong your runs through its deadly castle, while picking a class with low health/mana for an inferior talent can end your journey without making much progress.

Keep in mind that traits are just as important as classes in Rogue Legacy 2. There’s no point in picking a character with a high health bar and a powerful weapon if their health is halved and their weapon is replaced with a peace sign that does no damage.

Visiting the Blacksmith and Enchantress to get better weapons, armor, and passive abilities is also recommended to expand and get the most out of each run. Just like improving strength, dexterity, intelligence, health and mana, in your growing mansion.

How to Unlock All Classes in Rogue Legacy 2

Rogue Legacy 2 offers 15 classes to choose from:

  • Assassin
  • Astromancer
  • Barbaric
  • Bard
  • Boxer
  • Chief
  • Spear Dragon
  • Duelist
  • gunslinger
  • Knight
  • magician
  • Pirate
  • Tidy
  • Ronin
  • Valkyrie

To unlock a class, you need to spend gold coins, but you also need to reach a certain mansion level. The Ronin, for example, costs 2250 gold, and your mansion must be level 48 or higher. The mansion level is gained by spending your gold coins on the skill tree.

You have the option to access your skill tree at the start of each race and can spend all the gold coins you have obtained before you die. Charon will take all the gold you don’t spend when you re-enter the castle, so be sure to unlock as many skills, weapons, or enchantments as possible!

Best Classes in Rogue Legacy 2

Although most classes have their uses in certain situations, we recommend the Leader, Duelist, Valkyrie, and Ronin in Rogue Legacy 2’s Best Classas they are effective in fighting both regular enemies and bosses.

Chief

Although the Chef class has low health and low mana regen, it has incredible talent, weaponry, and critical attack efficiency.

The leader uses a frying pan as his primary weapon, which has a slight delay before hitting, but compensates for this by applying Burn when an enemy is hit. The frying pan can also hit projectiles, turning them into fireballs with a mid-range arc, which also causes enemies to burn.

Hitting enemies once and then getting to safety while Burn does all the work for you is the most effective way to play a boss. However, after hitting a projectile, you will be charged for three seconds, which means that if you hit an enemy during this time, it will critically hit.

  • Talent: unless a trait overrides it, the leader’s talent is a pot for making stew, which restores health and mana. Even better, the pot has three charges, which can be replenished by picking up food.
  • Improved main stats: Intelligence. Will increase the amount of health your stew restores, magic damage and burn damage from direct hits, and fireball damage when projectiles are deflected.

Duelist

The Duelist has medium health and good mana, with a great passive ability and a fast weapon that lands a lot of critical hits when used correctly.

A saber is the Duelist’s weapon of choice, and when used in the air it is the fastest weapon in the game. These are called Swings, and they can combine into a ground attack (Lunge) for an effective and fast combo.

The saber will crit an enemy if used while running. So you can combine air, ground, dash and talent attacks to completely destroy your opponents in seconds. It’s a particularly effective weapon against bosses, as it can deliver the most hits when you get brief openings between their attacks.

  • Talent: Duelists have a combat roll as their default talent, which deals damage to all enemies you pass through. Combat Roll will also make you charged for a second after using it, meaning you have to aim to hit right after you roll to get a critical hit. It’s also a very effective talent for dodging all sizes of projectiles and weapons due to the invulnerability it grants while you’re rolling.
  • Main stat improvements: Dexterity to improve critical hits, Strength to improve basic weapon damage.

Valkyrie

With low health and a slow weapon, the Valkyrie doesn’t seem like one of the best classes in Rogue Legacy 2. However, her useful talent and weapon range set her apart from the rest.

Valkyrie’s Scythe (spear) might be a bit slower than the others, but you can aim its attacks up, down, left, and right. This is effective in eliminating enemies at different levels without getting hurt. Attacking while dashing will also critically hit an enemy.

  • Talent: The Fauchard can also deflect and destroy small and medium-sized projectiles using the Valkyrie’s Deflect talent. This damages enemies caught in the blast, and a successful deflection will instantly recharge the talent and restore mana. Therefore, the Valkyrie is very effective against projectiles, especially when magic is used between deflects.
  • Improved main stats: Strength for weapon damage, Intelligence for deflection damage.

Ronin

A Ronin Katana has the longest range of any weapon in the game, a deadly teleport talent, and a passive that increases all damage types. To compensate for its power, Ronin unfortunately have long cooldowns, low health, and average mana.

The Ronin wields a Katana, which is very effective against mid-range enemies, due to the blade’s long reach. Hitting with the tip of the blade produces a critical hit, meaning Ronin are most effective when playing accurately and defensively.

As the Ronin has the Lone Traveler passive, all damage types are increased by 20%, making it one of the deadliest, yet slow, classes in Rogue Legacy 2.

  • Talent: to make the Ronin as powerful as possible, be sure to use his Immortal Kotetsu talent. This teleports you a short distance, making it an effective way to remove yourself from combat, as you’re also invulnerable during this time. The talent also damages any enemy you teleport through. Due to its power, there is a five second cooldown for Immortal Kotestsu. However, this resets if you kill an enemy with the talent, making it very effective against weaker groups of enemies.
  • Main stat improvements: Strength for weapon damage, Intelligence for Kotestsu’s immortal damage.
