Activision Blizzard: Shareholders agree to acquisition by Microsoft

Microsoft’s takeover of publisher Activision Blizzard is progressing. The shareholders recently approved the takeover.

Earlier this year, official news came that Microsoft was planning to take over publisher giant Activision Blizzard. A number of well-known brands such as World of WarCraft, StarCraft, Call of Duty and Diablo would fall into the hands of the Xbox manufacturer. Microsoft is paying a lot for this. The takeover is said to be worth almost 79 billion US dollars.

Now there are new developments in this process. As Bloomberg reports, the shareholders at Activision Blizzard have now also approved the sale of the company. Microsoft offered shareholders a price of $95 per share, which is 24% higher than the stock’s current price. 98% of shareholders approved the deal. This would be another important step in Microsoft’s takeover of Activision Blizzard.

However, the takeover is not yet sealed. The American Federal Trade Commission is currently investigating the takeover and must first give its “OK” before the deal can be finalized. In addition to consumer protection in the USA, the task of the FTC is also to ensure a functioning market and can thus still outsmart the takeover.
