The relationship between Xbox and Japan has always been complicated, with the country always favoring Sony or Nintendo. This culminated negatively with the Xbox One, which sometimes only sold a few copies per week. However, Phil Spencer and Microsoft have set out to change the situation on the archipelago. Good news, momentum has reversed and continues to improve.
Sales are accelerating, unprecedented in 10 years
In fact, sales for Xbox in Japan are getting better and better. Between April 18th and April 24th, more than 6,000 Xbox series were sold:
- 566 Xbox Series X, bringing the total since launch to 95,856
- 5,459 Xbox Series S, for a total of 88,678
Helping those sales are the better availability of the Xbox Series S, which is easier to manufacture and has a lower price point. It’s a new sign of Xbox’s revival in this area, with a new record! This is the first time since 2010 that Xbox has sold more than 6,000 consoles in the same week outside of their launch. Phil Spencer’s teams can therefore look forward to a first encouraging sign, as the Xbox Series has already outsold the Xbox One in Japan. As a reminder, Sarah Bond announced that Xbox had signed up with 200 developers from that country.
