Progress is unstoppable, and according to recent findings from a well-known analyst, the Apple Watch 8 should be able to take your temperature.
The next generation Apple Watch is expected to focus on user health. If the Apple Watch 7 was able to calculate the oxygen content in the blood, the next smartwatch from Apple should go one step further. Maybe she can tell you your temperature. It is the analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who gives the information on his Twitter account.
THE new health feature of the Apple Watch
Apple stopped measuring temperature on the Apple Watch 7 due to algorithm errors before the validation and testing phase last year. I believe that the Apple Watch 8 could integrate body temperature measurement in the second quarter of 2022 if the algorithm meets Apple’s large requirements before mass production.
The difficulty in implementing an accurate body temperature measurement lies in the fact that the temperature of the skin varies rapidly depending on the external environment. A smartwatch cannot support body temperature measurement in terms of hardware, so it needs a great algorithm to work together.
A difficult technology to implement
As you can see it seems quite complex as the temperature on the skin varies a lot and therefore an algorithm needs to be able to process the information intelligently. Huawei is already offering this technology on its latest watches and it doesn’t seem to be all there yet. Unless Apple surprises.
We must therefore wait for Apple’s official announcement to have a concrete idea of the said technology and how it works. It seems difficult to imagine an accurate calculation of body temperature using only the skin.
