What a sight – and sound! The e-scooter from this video sounds like a Ferrari

An e-scooter with a speaker upgrade sounds like a Ferrari with a V12 engine or single cylinder, whichever you prefer.

The rich sound of a Ferrari with a V12 engine catches most people’s eyes. You can get it a lot cheaper now, and you don’t even need a Ferrari to do it.

A additional speaker from the e-scooter manufacturer Segway imitates the sound of a combustion engine. Which engine you want to imitate with one of the compatible vehicles (more on that in a moment) is entirely up to you. You have the choice between:

  • single cylinder
  • two-cylinder
  • V8-Motor
  • V12-Motor
  • Electric motor

The electric motor sound only amplifies the native sound of the vehicle, since Segway e-scooters are already powered by such a model.

On the other hand, it is much more curious how a small scooter with the sound of a V12 engine whizzes around the corner, whereby a maximum of 20 km/h is permitted in this country. A demonstration to the appropriate Ninebot Engine Speaker priced at $149 see this video:

However, it should also be taken into account that the recordings were made in an underground car park, which should clearly amplify the sound of the relatively large loudspeaker. Researchers at MIT have developed much smaller loudspeakers, you can find out more about this in this article:

What devices does this work with?

You connect the speaker to the e-scooter via Bluetooth and can attach it to the pole with a bracket provided for this purpose. The sound then reacts to your input: when you accelerate, the speaker plays the corresponding sounds, when you take your foot off the gas or brake, it becomes quieter.

This works with Segway’s Ninebot line of products. This includes the following devices:

  • Ninebot Tretroller
  • Ninebot E-Scooter
  • Ninebot Go-Kart-Serie
  • Ninebot E-Moped
  • Ninebots self-balancing vehicles

Exactly which models are compatible is shown on the Homepage for the speaker about the entry Specification in a table under the point Applicable Models listed.

You can also use the engine speaker as a normal Bluetooth speaker to play your favorite music while driving or at home. It should also be usable in bad weather thanks to the IP55 certification against water and dust.

The largely absent engine noise is also an issue for the manufacturers of e-cars. The ID.3 from Volkswagen, for example, sounds like a Star Wars spaceship:

Could you imagine being on the road with an e-scooter that sounds more like a sports car via Bluetooth speakers? And what do you think of such scooters as a means of transport in general? Feel free to write it in the comments!
