On 09/10/2020, Ubisoft takes the floor during a Ubisoft Forward to announce great news: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, the game released in 2003 for PC, PlayStation 2, Xbox and GameCube, has the right to its own remake. Better we learn that everything will see the light of day pretty quickly as the software is expected on January 21st 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Unfortunately, not everything goes as planned…

The artistic direction of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai is not unanimous among the players, leading to the studio justifying itself a few hours later.

No, it wasn’t a time or budget issue. For us at Ubisoft, quality is the most important thing and we keep that in mind from the beginning. This project has been in development for two and a half years. (…) No, there was no time or budget cut for this game.

We wanted to bring this unique style to the game because Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time tells a fantastic story. (…) So we decided on a unique visual treatment to make this game stand out. It’s not Assassin’s Creed, it’s not Prince of Persia from 2008. It has to be unique. This magic, this fantastic spirit, emerges with the saturation of the light. It is therefore also a challenge to redefine the visual identity of the game with this remake.

But that defense on the part of Ubisoft Pune isn’t enough, as Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is pushed back to March 18, 2021, then an indefinite date.

Back at home

Now that we’re in 2022, it still looks like the remake won’t be releasing anytime soon as the game is now changing hands. Yes, we are experiencing an unexpected turn: The game, which was once managed by Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, is now managed by Ubisoft Montreal.

Development of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is now led by Ubisoft Montreal, birthplace of the epic The Sands of Time trilogy.

This decision is an important step and, building on the work of Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai, the team will now take the time necessary to regroup across the scope of the game to provide you with the best experience for this remake . time classic when it’s done.
