Humor Will Amarillo continue to be racist?
The show will arrive on our screens a few years later, in a social context where society is beginning to wake up to problems such as racism, machismo or homophobia.
In this social context, it is understandable that the very title of the show could be considered racist by many groups. Likewise, the voice actor commentary that was so funny in the early 90s will surely and thankfully stop being funny.
It is obvious that the program falls back on clichés and stereotypes and that it seems to somehow ridicule a culture.
In a report on racism and chinophobia in El Confidencial, statements by Spanish citizens of Chinese origin were collected. In the same report, it is stated:Many Chinese believe that their portrayal in the media is nothing more than a mocking stereotype it does them a disservice when it comes to integration into society”.
The article tells how the unfair portrayal in film and television of the Chinese community, based on stereotypes, ends up being very detrimental to the community itself.
For this reason, we hope that the new producers of Humor Amarillo will pass the filter of racism so as not to contribute to generating more chinophobia in our country.
