Despite the seemingly absolute dominance that titles like Fortnite, Free Fire y Apex Legends have on the genre, there are always new games coming out to try and get a piece of the cake. The next ‘battle royale’ is being produced by Neill Blomkamp – director of Distrito 9, Elysium, Chappie y in the devil’s mind– and your name is Off The Grid.
This title is being developed by the Gunzilla Games studio and its creators describe it as an AAA game. You can see their first trailer below:
The game will be set in a dystopian ‘cyberpunk’ future and, unlike other titles in the genre, will have an emphasis on narrative progression. Your world is being created by writer Richard K. Morgan (Altered Carbon, Crysis) and executive narrative director Olivier Henriot (Far Cry, Assassin’s Creed).
Neill Blomkamp, the project’s ‘visionary director’, describes Off The Grid like “battle royale 2.0”. He and his team want the world to “have a life of its own” and always offer something new for players.
Gunzilla Games hopes to release Off The Grid for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC in 2023. We are intrigued that Blomkamp is involved, although we didn’t like his most recent movie.
