Microsoft could further intensify its efforts in the cloud gaming area and, according to a report, is planning to release a streaming-only platform in the near future.
If you believe a new report, then Microsoft wants to publish a pure streaming platform relatively soon. Accordingly, Xbox games could then be played without a real console.
At least that’s what the usually well-informed colleagues from say VentureBeat. Microsoft has therefore planned the publication “within the next 12 months”. Colleagues compare the manageable hardware with Amazon Fire TV or Roku and allow users to use the Xbox Game Pass library via Xbox Cloud Gaming. In addition, the hardware should also enable the streaming of films and TV platforms.
If you don’t want to buy such hardware, but are interested in the basic functions, you may also be lucky – if you own a Samsung Smart TV. Microsoft is planning a native app for these TVs, which will then enable access to Xbox Cloud Gaming directly via the TV. Here, too, the publication is planned within a year. The functionality is said to be comparable to NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW game streaming service, which is already available on LG TVs.
Overall, with both planned releases, Microsoft is pursuing long-term plans to break down barriers to playing Xbox games via streaming without having to purchase a next-gen console. Most recently, Epic Games’ Fortnite had become playable via browser thanks to Xbox Cloud Gaming, which was particularly pleasing to iOS gamers who otherwise had no access to Fortnite on Apple devices.
