Complex Games, the developers of the new Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Demon Hunterhave issued a statement apologizing to players after running a campaign where certain in-game items were only available to those who watched some Twitch streams.

above PC gamerwWhile Complex probably thought they were running some pretty standard (by 2022 standards) promotional material for the release window, the nature of the items and the fandom/platform involved hadn’t. Here is an example a negative review subsequently left on the game’s Steam page, one of many that presumably prompted the statement:

The game would have gotten a thumbs up, but for one thing. The developers, for some ridiculous reason, decided to place 11 in-game items (not skins or cosmetics, but actual weapons and armor) behind twitch drops on release day. In order to get these items, you not only have to create and link a Frontier account and a Twitch account, but you have to watch silly Twitch streamers chat for hours instead of actually playing the game you paid for. They’re also timed, so if you miss them, you’ll miss them forever.

If there was another way to earn these in-game, it wouldn’t be a big deal, but I’m not going to ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ watch Angry Joe for 2 hours just to get a gun.

The Angry Joe stream was actually only 45 minutes long, but her point stands. The items weren’t anything fancy or groundbreaking, most of them just very slight variations on early-game weapons and armor that you’ll pass by in a couple of hours anyway, but it’s the spirit of the move – and its mandates to the Player’s time when they want to try everything the game has to offer – this has irked people as much as its practical consequences.

As a result, said complex every item offered during the streams will be given away for free to all players later this month.

Hail Commanders of the Imperator Force,

We’re glad so many of you are enjoying Warhammer 40000 Chaos Gate: Daemonhunters. We’re glad you’re enjoying the gameplay, but we also listen to your feedback.

One of the areas we’ve noticed is frustration with the various twitch drop campaigns we’ve been running around the game’s launch. While the sole aim of these campaigns was to raise awareness, we understand that many feel this is keeping in-game items away from them.

This was certainly not our intention and we appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. As such, we will be making all items from each Twitch Drop campaign available to players via one of our scheduled updates in May. We will confirm the update and exact date when this is complete.

We hope this takes away your frustrations and allows you to continue crushing the forces of Chaos with these items in your Armory.

In case you haven’t heard of it Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Demon Hunterlet alone played I suppose it’s because it’s the worst name ever and that the thought of yet another warhammer The game has caused your eyeballs to roll back into your skull.

The thing is… this game is Yes, really good and very XCOMso for all of you who have glossed it over nicely but are now preparing to revisit this reveal, I’ll share some impressions of it later in the week.
