Meta announced that several of the features that use location will be leaving Facebook forever, possibly due to privacy concerns.
The changes on Facebook follow after Meta announced that podcasts would disappear from this social network. Now it’s up to one of the social functions that had arrived years ago
It seems like Facebook would completely eliminate the Nearby Friends or Nearby Friends feature, as well as other utilities. This decision could be final and Meta would already announce it to all its users via recent updates.
Goodbye Facebook Close Friends, a classic network function
Facebook has started notifying all of its users that nearby friends and other features that use user location will be removed from June 1:
Nearby Friends and Weather Alerts will no longer be available after May 31, 2022. The information you’ve shared for these experiences, including location history and background location, will stop being collected after May 31, 2022. May 31, 2022, even if you have previously activated them.
Meta started advertising it to all its customersso this appears to be a move in favor of user security and privacy, as features that used real-time location of users, sometimes without their knowledge, are being removed.
After May 31, 2022, nearby friends, weather alerts, maps of places visited, and other features will be removed from the platform. Besides, All this data can be downloaded by the user with a deadline of August 1, 2022because Meta will then delete them entirely.
Note that these functions they will be removed from Android and iOSand we assume they will be diluted little by little through the fortnightly updates that the company sends out.
