Losing your main work team can be a really big pothole in your life, especially when that team is costing you $7,000 from the wing. This is what happened to Graham Tait, an Australian photographer whose professional equipment was stolen while traveling. But some AirTags turned that initial disappointment into an adventure with a happy ending.
Beware of stealing something from a hotel and keeping it in rooms close to the victim
They tell 9news that Tait lives in Sydney, but traveled to the Flinders Mountains in the south of the country with his whole team. Halfway through, he stopped to sleep at a hotel, and when he woke up, he found someone had broken into his car. And in fact, the camera that was inside and other valuables were missing. Disaster.
But Tait suddenly remembered that he had placed an AirTag on each of those valuables, so he quickly used his iPhone to try to locate them. Surprise: they were in another room of the same hotel where he was. Either the thief had an iPhone or someone with an iPhone had passed through the room helping triangulate the location on Apple’s Find network.
That’s all Graham was able to recover thanks to the AirTags he had set up.
The rest was easy: the police were called, all of Tait’s valuables were found in that room, and the thief was arrested. And what was going to be a $7,000 upset turned into a story you tell for years. And in a fidelity to the AirTag that will never break.
The moral of this isn’t just that a $35 AirTag saved several valuables. The additional lesson is that if you hide these AirTags well, the thief may not realize you are wearing them or even don’t even know what they are. For your highest good.
