Dan Slott will return to the Spider-Verse this summer with a new five-issue anthology mini-series introducing wild new multiversal variants of Spider-Man – but don’t get too attached! August is new Edge of Spider verse is all in preparation for what Slott and Marvel are billing as the final Spider-Verse story: end of spider verselater in 2022.

“Marvel has decided to do the unthinkable, make it big and bring the Spider-Verse comic book saga to a fiery conclusion,” Slott told Polygon via email. “Yes, that’s right. Later this year we will all witness the END OF THE SPIDER-VERSE!”

Of course, in the never-ending world of superhero comics, few things really end, but pretending they do is half the fun. “It’s insane if you ask me,” enthused Slott. “Why should they do this? WHY? You could have milked this spider cash cow for decades. That said, if you’re going to do it, going all out in a glamor of fame is definitely the way to go!”

But before the Spider-verse ends, a new one will come Edge of Spider versea spiritual sequel to the 2014 anthology of the same name that ties in with the original spider verse Crossover that expands on the backstories of various alternate universe Spider-Persons. The new one hits the shelves in August Edge of Spider verse is an opportunity for various creators to add new characters to the Spider-Man multiverse, just as famous characters such as Spider-Gwen/Ghost Spider, Peni Parker and Spider-Man Noir have now been introduced.

And now, courtesy of Marvel Comics, Polygon can show off some of these new spider hopefuls.

Character design document for Night-Spider, a woman in a black and white spider-themed catsuit, a domino mask, and her long white hair tied in a ponytail.

Slott tells Polygon that Night-Spider is the role of world-class thief-lucky superpower Felicia Hardy from a universe where she has spider powers instead of Peter Parker, with a costume designed by Kris Anka.

A character design for Hunter-Spider, a heroic version of Kraven the Hunter with spider powers. He's a mustachioed man wearing the pants and gloves of a Spider-Man costume and an entire giant spider as an open vest. Under the vest he is shirtless. Cobwebs form a lion-like mane over his shoulders.

A black and white character design passport for Spider-Laird, a bearded, stern-looking man who wears a kilt and mask inlaid with cobwebs, and carries a cutlass on his belt.

The Hunter-Spider, designed by Mark Bagley, hails from an Earth where Sergei Kravenoff obtained spider powers “in a most unusual way,” according to Slott. “I don’t want to say more right now, other than to say that writing a heroic ‘Kraven the Spider’ is a lot of fun.”

And Spider-Laird, co-created with artist Martin Coccolo, Slott proudly says, is “the first kilt-wearing hero of the Spider-verse.” According to Slott, this new costume will “give cosplayers more freedom of movement and the ability to let their knees breathe.”
