news hardware Pixel 6a: price, spec sheet, release date… Everything you need to know about Google’s new smartphone

The Pixel 6a was just announced at the Google I/O event. This is the cheaper version of the Pixel 6 that was released at the end of October. That’s all the information Google gives us.

The new Google Pixel 6a, the performance of a Pixel 6 Pro

After much leaked information, the Pixel 6a is finally official, and the least we can say is that we’re hardly surprised. It’s almost like we’re looking at a Google Pixel 6 clone, with this famous design that’s been the talk of the town.

The 6a therefore highlights this new camera module with this visor that crosses the width of the smartphone. There are two cameras: a 12Mpx wide-angle camera (versus the Pixel 6’s 50Mpx) and an ultra-wide 12Mpx camera.

On the screen side we have a size of 6.1 inches, more compact than the Pixel 6 (6.4), the 6 Pro (6.7) and even the Pixel 5a (6.3), therefore easier to hold in hand .

While the previous Pixel “A” relied on a mid-range processor to offer the best photo performance at a lower cost, we see quite the opposite with this Pixel 6a. As a matter of fact, The Pixel 6a packs the same Tensor processor, Google’s first internal SoC, that’s already on the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro.

According to Google, this new engine would make the smartphone 5 times more powerful than the previous version.

Notable improvements and an attractive price for the Google Pixel 6a

With the Tensor processor we are therefore entitled to the same artificial intelligence functions as the more expensive models, like Live Translate to translate a live audio conversation, Magic Eraser to intelligently erase elements of a photo, or Real Tone to reliably represent different skin tones in a snapshot.

Google is (finally) removing the fingerprint sensor behind the device and replacing it at the front under the screen. The Pixel 6 sensor tends to be a little finicky to see if it improves this time around.

To keep the price lower than the Pixel 6, the 6a makes do with a 60Hz display and 6GB of RAM, along with a smaller battery to be expected with a smaller screen size.

Google guarantees security updates for 5 years, but does not specify the exact duration of the updates.

Here are the specifications of the new Google Pixel 6a:

  • Screen : 6.1 beats, Full HD+ 60Hz
  • Processor: Google tensor
  • RAM : 6 go
  • battery : 4410mAh
  • wide angle sensor: 12mpx

At the end of this presentation The moderator offered us a little teaser on the design of the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro, which won’t arrive until fall.

We can see the visor change to metallic gray and Google states that the aluminum on these models is 100% recycled. It will arrive with Android 13.

But Google didn’t stop there, admitting to working on a tablet again several years after abandoning the project. Here is the first preview.

We notice the rather particular white outlines on this Google tablet. It is powered by Google Tensor and will be released in 2023.
