The Lightning connector made its way to the iPhone 5 and has since been the connector used on all iPhones and iPads until USB-C came to the iPad. Apple has never taken up the challenge of bringing this universal connector to its mobile terminal. However, the European Union and other global bodies are putting strong pressure on Apple and other companies to adapt USB-C to their devices mandatory. This could have motivated the possible change that would come on the iPhone 15. According to the latest rumors, the iPhone 15 which would see the light of day in the second half of 2023 could be the first iPhone with USB-C in history.
USB-C could reach iPhone 15 after more than 10 years with Lightning
The Lightning connector arrived on the iPhone 15 in 2012 and since then all iPhones carried it. This connector allowed the transfer of data and current and was created by Apple. Before Lightning, we had Apple’s 30-pin connector which has given way to the newer connector’s 6-pin connector. One of the main advantages of the connector was the reversibility.
However, for some years The European Union, among other organizations, is pushing to remove Lightning from Apple products. The alternative, of course, would be the homogenization of the connection via USB-C, already available on certain iPads marketed by the big apple.

My latest survey indicates that 2:23 a.m. new iPhone will drop the Lightning port and switch to USB-C port. USB-C could improve iPhone transfer and charging speed in hardware designs, but final spec details are still dependent on iOS support.—Ming-Chi Kuo (@mingchikuo) May 11, 2022
The impulse initiated by the European Union could lead Apple to design an iPhone with USB-C leaving the rest of the world with Lightning connectivity. However, Ming Chikuo, the famous analystguarantees USB-C will reach iPhone 15 in the second half of 2023.
While that doesn’t clarify much more, it looks like Apple could have left behind the major downsides of not introducing USB-C. Among these drawbacks were the charging times and the waterproof certification of the device. The integration of this new connector and the final farewell to Lightning would be a turning point in the history of Apple, just like saying goodbye to the Home button.
