With update 1.18, Minecraft delivered some of the most exciting new features in recent years. Improved terrain generation and new caves made the world more impressive than ever. This and previous updates also brought our author Enrico back to one of his favorite games:
Minecraft
I’ve played over 1,000 hours and it just keeps getting better
No wonder, then, that the expectations for the next version of Minecraft, from the developers The Wild
baptized, are very high. Update 1.19 also sounded very promising when it was announced, but the developers have since moved away from some of the planned features. Why? You can find out here.

Minecraft: Developers comment on missing fireflies and other issues
A video answering questions asked by fans sheds light on Mojang’s plans for 1.19. There is also talk of why the planned revision of the Birch Forest biome and the introduction of fireflies are not implemented.
To the birch forests was presented at Minecraft Live Concept Art. However, this was only a preview of possible future improvements. In 1.19 the biome will not be revised.
Firefly according to the developers, should serve as a source of food for the frogs. However, it was pointed out that in reality the luminous insects are often poisonous to frogs and toads. That’s why they were deleted from update 1.19. Although the idea is still interesting, an implementation in the next updates is not planned.
By the way, it’s not the first time that Minecraft has had a problem with hungry frogs. In a previous snapshot, they ate whole goats until the developers intervened:
Minecraft
A bug almost meant the goats went extinct
Many fans are dissatisfied with the answers. For example, there was no explanation as to why fireflies weren’t simply removed from the frogs’ diet instead of being removed from the update altogether. Not everyone can understand why so much attention is paid to realism in the world of blocks. So writes about JetpackWater on Reddit:
You don’t add fireflies because some species are poisonous to frogs in real life? Seriously? We play a block game in which I feed cows until they have children…
User 9617saphs is of the opinion that the developers are fundamentally on the wrong track with their updates:
I think Mojang Studios should primarily finish the announced features and tilt the summer and winter release deadlines. They also need to improve transparency and communication with the community, and be more careful when showing concepts and determining the scope of an update.
Overall, many players seem disappointed that features they expected are now being postponed. Colleague Géraldine will probably not be happy about the news either, for her exploring in Minecraft is her top priority:

What do you think of the fact that 1.19 has to do without new birch forests and fireflies? Do you understand the rationale or are you disappointed with the news? Feel free to write your opinion in the comments.
