Remedy’s Alan Wake is now celebrating its 12th anniversary – and the makers are celebrating it in a special way. In a video, the current status of Alan Wake 2 is commented on and the remaster of the first part is now also confirmed for Nintendo’s Switch.
Last year, a remaster of Alan Wake was released for PC, PlayStation and Xbox, and now Switch owners should also be able to enjoy the title. For the 12th anniversary of the franchise, the corresponding implementation has now been officially announced; this is scheduled to appear in autumn 2022, but does not yet have a concrete release date. The release will then be digital only, but the game will run natively on the switch and not use a cloud solution, as is the case with other current titles.
For many fans, however, it is probably even more interesting how the announced sequel Alan Wake 2 is doing. The title was confirmed at the Game Awards in December 2021, but since then it has been largely silent about it. In the anniversary video, studio boss Sam Lake now says:
“Everything related to the development of Alan Wake 2 is going really well. We’re deep in production, we have a lot of material and a large part of the game is already playable,” said Lake. While it’s running really well, you won’t see anything new from the game for now. The agreement was not to show anything major from Alan Wake 2 this summer; developing a decent demo or trailer takes a lot of time, and they prefer to put that into developing the game itself.
“We feel like we have a momentum going right now and we want to make sure we create the best first survival horror game for Remedy. We don’t want to distract the team from that focus, so we’re continuing to make a great gaming experience unfortunately you have to wait a while longer for a demo or a trailer,” says the head of the studio.
According to the current planning status, Alan Wake 2 is to be released in 2023; Epic Games will act as the publisher.
