There are rumors again about Nvidia’s new graphics card generation. Leaker kopite7kimi already announced yesterday that the cards will probably come sooner than expected. He already has new information about the unconfirmed high-end model of the next generation Geforce RTX 4090. It is said to consume significantly less power than previously assumed, but still deliver a lot of power.
In a tweet (via Videocardz) the leaker summarizes the specs of the RTX 4090 known to him: According to this, the card works with 16,128 CUDA cores. These are the processing units of the graphics card. That means the RTX 4090 would have 126 streaming multiprocessors.
Previous rumors had suggested that the high-end 4000 card would have 140 to 142 streaming multiprocessors. At the same time, this does not mean that the cards will be slower than expected. According to Kimi, the RTX 4090 should be twice as fast as its direct predecessor, the RTX 3090. You can see the full specs here:

Significantly less power consumption
The power consumption is particularly interesting here. According to the leaker, the RTX 4090 should consume 450 watts. Previous rumors had assumed 600 to 700 watts. With 450 watts, the RTX 4090 would be at the level of the RTX 3090 Ti.
RTX 3090 Ti im Test
I didn’t expect so much performance
Why is this such a big deal? If the power consumption of 450 watts for the RTX 4090 with double the performance compared to the RTX 3090 is confirmed, that would be a huge leap in terms of the efficiency of the new graphics cards. Incidentally, the RTX 3090 as a Founders Edition is designed for 350 watts.
This would make Nvidia’s next generation of graphics cards far more efficient than the last. However, these are just unconfirmed rumors for the time being. Also important for classification. The performance information usually refers to the theoretical computing power in terms of teraflops. Experience has shown that the performance in games is not quite as high. But even a performance increase of 50 to 60 percent would be a huge leap if the card only required 30 percent more power in the form of watts.
Release date confirmed again
Wo hooves7kimi in a tweet announced yesterday that the RTX 4000 cards would come early in the third quarter of 2022, the leaker will be more specific in today’s tweet. At the request of the Twitter account of Videocardz.com, he reveals that the new cards are due out in mid-July. It remains to be seen whether this will really be the case, because Nvidia has always launched its graphics cards towards the end of the year.
Even if the specs of the RTX 4090 seem suitable for the next generation, not everything about the RTX 4000 series is next-gen suitable. The graphics cards are said to be without a feature of the next generation:
RTX 4000 is supposed to do without a next-gen feature – and that’s actually a good thing
Do you find a power consumption of 450 watts reasonable for twice the power compared to the predecessor? Or should new cards work even more efficiently? Please let us know.
