Zombies, parkour and a gripping story. That would probably be the first thing that would come to mind for Dying Light 2. In the development studio’s latest project, at least the first two points will probably be omitted: Techland is working on a new fantasy role-playing game – and former developers of The Witcher or Deathloop are involved.
What do we know about the new title?
Many open questions: Unfortunately, there is not much more information. Neither the name nor an approximate release date is known. But it will probably be a long time before the game hits the market. Techland still has a few at the moment open job postings – but many have already been filled with well-known names.
Which developers are involved? For example, Karolina Stachyra and Arkadiusz Borowik, both former developers of The Witcher 2 and 3, are on board. But David McClure, Deathloop’s lead game designer, is now also working at Techl and.
That has already been seen
So far there is only one artwork to see. The room for interpretation is therefore still quite high. For example, the overgrown ruins could be inspired by Aztec architecture.

Pawel Marchewka, CEO of Techland, only tells us the following about the new project:
We want to create a complete next-gen experience. An epic fantasy set in a thriving open world, built on the experience and talent we’ve gathered as a team over the past few years. Driven by new ideas, passion and creativity.
While we can’t reveal any more details about our new project just yet, we look forward to showing it to players when the time is right.

The new project will not be a Hellraid
After years of waiting, Techland fans might be able to prick up their ears at this news. After all, the studio announced a very similar project years ago: Hellraid should be a co-op adventure with a fantasy element in which players face hordes of hellish creatures. There was even real gameplay. However, the project was shelved and eventually turned into a DLC of the first Dying Light. This is what Hellraid looked like almost nine years ago:

However, the chances of that happening are very slim. Because the project was revealed some time ago and it was already emphasized that the new fantasy project has nothing to do with Hellraid and will be an independent thing. You can find more information about this at the US colleagues from Eurogamer.
What does this mean for Dying Light 2?
All Dying Light 2 fans can breathe a sigh of relief: the plans do not change the roadmap for the zombie open world. It is still well filled with DLCs until 2027, but also with free content. It remains to be seen whether the story additions perform as well as in our test.
