hymn is an upcoming horror game that aims to explore the dark side of spirituality. Set on a spiritual retreat, the third-person horror will require players to scramble to survive when things go wrong. You need to craft and fight your way out of the retreat, escaping the psychedelic horrors and cosmic horrors that happen when a ritual goes awry.
Sounds interesting, right? Well, I have bad news for gamers on Xbox One and PS4. Following the recent press release, it seems like The Chant may not be coming to consoles. Previously, Brass Token said the game would be released on Xbox One, Xbox Series S|X, PS4, PS4, and PC, but a recent press release omits current-generation consoles.
After Gematsu questioned this on Twitter, @TheChantGame responded: “At this stage we are focusing on Gen 9 and PC to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. News about the Gen 8 release will be in the near future.”
At this stage, we focus on Gen 9 and PC development to ensure they meet the highest quality standards. News about the 8th generation version will be announced in the near future.

So whether that means the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game have been put on hold, or scrapped altogether, we can’t be sure.
It seems that abandoning the Xbox One and PS4 releases isn’t news everyone welcomes, but The Chant isn’t the first to do so. Just recently, WB Games announced that Gotham Knights would be available exclusively on next-gen consoles and PC. Gotham Knights and The Chant may be the first of more games, as developers continue to push boundaries in terms of graphics and performance — boundaries that Gen 8 consoles can’t seem to reach.
When Brass Token shares their news about the Gen 8 release, we’re still hopeful we’ll see The Chant on Xbox One and PS4 — but only if we’re particularly hopeful. For those playing on PS5, Xbox Series S|X or PC, The Chant will be released in October 2022.
