How far is French romance, breakfast brought in bed with a rose on a tray. The sweet smell of toast and the taste of freshly squeezed orange juice… If this is still roughly the image we send back to foreigners who still love our country very much, the reality seems very different, especially on the side of the famous generations Y or Z…
During this study, the pollsters were interested in the following three questions :
- When do the French start using their devices?
- What do the French do in the morning?
- What do you think of your digital habits and what would you change?
The first point the study focuses on concerns the moment when French people aged 18 and over use their smartphone for the first time in a day, and the results are remarkable!
Basically, France is divided into two, the over and under 50-year-olds. The younger we are, the more used we have become to using our cell phones as soon as we wake up. For 18-24 year olds, the famous Generation Z, that number jumps to 77%. On the contrary, the older we get, the more we benefit from a gentle awakening and the cell phone comes later when it is wide awake.

Like it or not, today’s world has few romantic sides and everything digital has replaced the passionate discussions of the morning.
If 82% of French people start their “digital day” with their smartphone, we find that 35% of us also watch TV in the morning, 33% consult their computer and 20% their tablet.
But what exactly are all these people doing on their smartphones in the morning? Not surprisingly, more than 56% use social media, closely followed by checking or browsing the news. 30% of us even say they start their work with work email, for example, while 29% of respondents say, more amusingly, that they simply turn off or postpone the alarm clock.
The study also asked where and when we used our smartphones in the morning. It took little for the toilets to delight first place at breakfast!

And if from the first moments of the day we observe an omnipresence of the digital, do not think that all this disappears once the landing of the door is crossed, quite the contrary!
32% of respondents say that they continue to use their smartphone when walking on the street, there is a risk of hitting a post on the head, 30% in bars, cafes or restaurants, thanks for the friendliness, 30% also in public places Transport (there we understand them) but also 26% by car… We will naively believe that these 26% all have a private driver, otherwise thanks road safety…
