Let’s not be stingy: Sonic‘s movie adventures are significant right now. Can’t even ignore it. Sonic 2 was a great movie, but it also became the highest-grossing game adaptation of all time. do you know? It’s well deserved.
Not only has Sonic Films created several great big-screen adventures, it has also done a convincing job of creating a new version of the Sonic canon. An expanding universe that is easy to invest in.and Sonic 3 It’s officially here, which means we can’t help but wonder…what should be inside?
We have a few ideas; some things we think should come up Sonic the Hedgehog 3, whenever it is released. What do you want to see?
Chaos and Sonic Adventure Mashup
Thanks to the end credits Stinger at the end of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, we all know what’s driving the next movie: Shadow of the Hedgehog. Of course, Shadow was introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 and has a clear backstory (more on that later), but I don’t think that means the story has to be a pure adaptation of SA2.
To be fair, the adaptation part is already in place. Sonic 2 introduces the GUN, a military organization that is central to Shadow’s history. But I actually think the next movie should take inspiration from these two Sonic Adventure titles.
SA2’s ultimate villain is a dead man, the iconic villain’s grandfather, Gerald Robotnik. But the final stage of the battle is against some genetically engineered lizards that were originally prototypes for ultimate life forms, such as shadows. Anyway, for my money, ‘Biolizard’ is a bit out of place.
Still, this is where the two stories can come together. What if Gerald Robotnik had been experimenting with an ancient god-like being? That’s Chaos, from the first Sonic adventure. Chaos has close ties to Chaos Emeralds, and Shadow can use Emeralds to gain Chaos Control’s powers – so maybe experiments with Chaos were involved in Shadow’s creation?
It all lines up and will give the film equal access to iconic concepts and scenes from SA1 and SA2. This would dovetail with the second Sonic film being largely a mashup of Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 — allowing more nostalgia to pass along at the same time.
Live and learn
If you’re going to pay homage to Sonic Adventure, one thing that really had to happen was the emergence of Sonic’s choice of music from that era – the cheesy hard rock of the Crush 40.
It’s true that the Sonic movies have their own musical signature, with Sonic dancing to pop music and hip-hop sounding both films — but if the film adapts any significant part of Sonic Adventure 2, whether it’s the song Or fleeing the city requires showing up. It’s inseparable from the feel of these games.
Crush 40 is hardly expensive to license, and they’ve made it public how eager they are to be a part of it. Even cameos, such as the appearance of the green mountain theme in Sonic 2, can work. But as film Sonic begins to use the Dreamcast era as a playground, the iconic sound of that era deserves a nod.
Maria was blown away
Earlier, we mentioned Shadow’s backstory – that’s what this is all about. Sonic 3 should go for it’s in-game story, which involves Shadow’s dislike of GUN and Human’s main motive is that Maria, a young human woman he’s close to (and Robotnik’s aunt, by the way) gets just like his The creator, Gerald Robotnik, was mercilessly killed by GUN.
It’s a fairly dark backstory for a cartoon character, but I think the Sonic movie has it in it to do it justice. Also, there are worse situations in many Marvel movies. So, let GUN shoot Maria. Let Robotnik understand that his grandfather lost his mind. farewell. why not?
Amy Ross
I have to admit, I don’t think Sonic 3 will adapt any 3D games. The next natural step for me was like an adaptation of the Sonic CD – introducing Amy and Metal Sonic, and completing the first set of Sonic characters in the game.
But, I get it. Shadow matters, he’s an incredibly iconic character, and the reactions of the kids I’ve seen at the screenings are testament to the potency of his introduction. There is audible gasp and excitement! That’s cool.
But there’s still a gap in the series; there’s no heroine. In the early game, Amy was clearly just a teenage girl in trouble, then an annoying Sonic fangirl – but in recent years she’s become one of her own. The Sonic Boom version of the character, smart and funny, is particularly good, and probably where the Sonic movie should take inspiration from. While the best Amy of all time, to me, is the one from the British “Fleetway” comic, she’s a crossbow-wielding freedom fighter.
Casting Amy seems easier than Shadow; I can imagine many comedians who can do the job as well as she does. Just as Sonic 2 had room for Tails and Knuckles, I believe Amy has room in Sonic 3 as well. This, in turn, could lead to…
A small planet post credit teases
The Sonic films owe a lot of their structure to the Marvel franchise—one thing the superhero enterprise brings to the table is the end credits Stinger, which of course is where we learn about Shadow.
What could the end credits of Sonic 3 be? Well, for me, the answer is obvious: I think it should be what I imagine Sonic 2 to look like. A mysterious asteroid miracle has appeared in the sky, bound to Earth by a giant chain. Maybe we’ll see a Sonic-like silhouette with a metallic sheen…
Thus, the stage is set for the loosely adapted Sonic CD—a time-travel adventure that even travels back and forth along the three other films. It just looks natural.
And, as a bonus? Knuckles TV Show Should Have Chaotix
Before we get Sonic 3, there’s going to be another Sonic Cinematic Universe; a spinoff TV series from Paramount+, where Idris Elba’s Knuckles will star.
Since it’s a TV series, there’s some concern here that it’ll only try to tell Knuckles’ adventures on Earth, him and a bunch of humans. But…I really hope not. It’s an obscure reference, but the Knuckles Show is an ideal opportunity to expand the world of traditional Sonic characters once again. For that, take inspiration from the game – let Chaotix join the fight!
