Let’s remember January when I wrote a story called Crypto Losers Buy Copy Of Jodorowsky’s Dune, Have Played Themselvesa piece that I thought at the time perfectly captured the extent to which brainworms had afflicted the blockchain community.
To recap, a group of people known as DAO (more here) bought one of the surviving copies of Jodorowsky’s Dunea production bible for a failed 1970 Hollywood adaptation dune which was made famous by the 2013 documentary Jodorowsky’s Dune. They knew a lot more about crypto scams than they did about copyright laws and thought they could do all kinds of things with the material in it without even thinking that buying a book doesn’t give you the rights to what’s in it , or that it is only one of several surviving copies, not the last/only one.
We hadn’t heard much about the project since, until over the weekend one of the DAO’s co-founders, Charlie/Charlotte Fang — who also helps run an NFT project called Milady — was accused of posting really reprehensible shit online.
Most allegations are contained in this comprehensive twitter thread by 0xngmi, where the poster known as “Miya” compares blacks to apes, calls homosexuality a “disease” and says a nation can be “saved” by killing its Jews. It is also claimed that “Miya” was involved the Systemspace community, a group that has been dubbed a “suicide cult.”
Fang has since confessed to being “Miya” in a series of Twitter posts (although it’s important to note that they don’t address specific allegations, so it’s unclear which they actually were or not) in which they say, that their disgusting posts and behavior were that they were just “trolls” and “juveniles” and that their “true views leave no room for hatred”. They have nevertheless announced that they are stepping down from their role on the Milady NFT project, despite their status with the dune
As we saw, A DAO is simply a front to lure suckers into buying cryptoand now we’re revising them dune Let’s review the team’s efforts and see how things have been going for their own currency in the months since they bought the book and…ah.
Thank you Ben!
