The studio announced today that DICE is “ending” future development on Battlefield 2042’s Danger Zone.
The studio said in a development update that it had “ambition and high hopes” for the experience throughout development, but admitted it “didn’t find a suitable home” in Battlefield 2042. The team will now instead change its focus on the modes players are most engaged in.
That said, the danger zone will remain in the game, but the team will only address critical bugs and odd behavior as they arise. In other words, don’t expect new experiences or Danger Zone content, future maps won’t support the mode.
The update also mentions that work on the update is “going well” and is now scheduled to be released sometime after Season 1. DICE says the changes will help improve much of the infantry experience on the map, which will help eliminate the “elongated play space” of the game into a quieter space” and focus the action on the center of the map.
Season 1 will launch in June, marking the start of a year of new content for the game. You can look forward to four seasons, four new specialists, additional maps, and new weapons and gadgets. The Battle Pass is coming to Battlefield, and it promises to give you the chance to get new in-game items through free tiers, as well as new cosmetics for both free and premium tiers.
With the release of Season 1, a major update will be released, bringing not only new content to the game, but also new quality of life enhancements, fixes, and improvements.
