We are already a week and a half away from the expected WWDC22 and Apple is not stopping developing software. The latest were iOS 15.5 and company, later launching the first iOS 15.6 beta. Yesterday he did a minor release, but it also serves as a prelude to whatever else is coming at his developer conference. The software version 15.5.1 for HomePods is already available.
A version designed to give stability to the HomePod
At this point we could say that all the fish is already sold. In Apple Park, they seem to be focusing on the new things we’ll see in the various operating systems that will be announced during the June 6 keynote. Proof of this is that the latest version of the HomePod and HomePod mini software does not include any tangible novelties beyond the classics “general stability and performance improvements“. At least that’s what the company itself clearly states on its website.
As always, this update is ready to download from Home app. We must have both the iPhone and the speaker(s) connected to a WiFi network in order to proceed with the download and subsequent installation of it. Given the few changes it incorporates, the process should not take long.
From the latest before homeOS 1.0?
Most likely, the HomePod will continue to receive official updates these months along with the rest of the operating systems, with version 15.6 more than confirmed. However, and despite the fact that lately the rumors do not talk about it, at the next developer conference we could see the expected operating system for home accessories in which these HomePods (and presumably Apple TVs) would be included.
It was a year ago that we discovered the first reference to homeOS. It was in a job posting from Apple itself, in which this software was mentioned, which to date had not been published. In fact, that’s still the case, as Apple never officially named him afterwards and even changed that job posting. However, some time later we continued to receive reports that whether it had that name or not, it was more than likely that the speakers would have their own operating system.
Therefore, we will have to continue to wait for the arrival of June 6, when Apple will raise the curtain to launch WWDC22 and present us with all the news. And it is that, beyond whether or not it launches its own operating system, there will be other aspects to observe in relation to the speakers, such as the original HomePod compatibility. We remember that this mounts an A8 chip as did the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus, mobiles that were already excluded from the list of upgradable with iOS 13 and which, logically, will not be resurrected with iOS 16.
