Apple would once again be ready to innovate by including a camera in the digital crown of the Apple Watch. A patent reveals how it would be included.
new patent attributed to Apple shows the Apple Watch with a camera placed in the digital crown. It is an interesting proposal, but without a doubt leaves many doubts about privacy both the user and third parties.
An Apple Watch with a camera in the digital crown, a bold proposition
In the information detailed in the patent, no section on confidentiality is exposed. It is well understood that this is at first and only explains how the camera works in the clock. The only part where the paragraph is quoted indicates that each responsible entity in the collection, analysis, disclosure, transfer or storage of personal information they must comply with established privacy policies and/or practices.
The operation should not be done exclusively from a position on the wrist. The camera could be located on the back of the watch. Let’s remember that there is another patent in which the camera would be under the screen of the Apple Watch. Variations may be expected in this prototype, so there is no guarantee that the camera will be included in the Digital Crown.

A camera with flash and different uses
The patent indicates that Apple suggests the sphere as a camera viewfinder. That is to say, it would not only be used for photographic purposes. The camera flash could work as an optical heart rate monitor or be useful for other applications that include detections of another type. Apple is a specialist in sensors, just turn to see the electrocardiogram that was recently activated in Mexico.
What if the camera was included in the Digital Crown? Other rotating crowns would be integrated to modify the aperture of the lens. It wouldn’t be just any camera, it could take good quality photos despite being on a small device. What the patent does not explain is how a photo would be taken. It could be easy, do it from the same watch with the Camera app or use the side button to capture.

The challenge of including a lens in the digital crown of the watch may seem almost impossible, but Apple has already covered all possible axes. Tyler S. Bushnell, one of the creators of the patent, has already worked on another patent that completely revamps the concept of the digital crown. The smartwatch design could change with this patent, it remains to be seen if there is any progress now with the Apple Watch Series 8.
