rollerdrom, a new high-flying roller derby game featuring weapons from Roll7 and Private Division was announced during Sony’s State of Play on Thursday. The single-player, third-person shooter is scheduled for release on August 16th on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4 and Windows PC.
The game takes place in the year 2030 where a deadly form of roller derby is the sport of choice for spectators. In what the developers call a “vicious spectacle,” players perform flashy tricks and shoot other competitors to score as many points as possible.
The game follows the story of newcomer Kara Hassan, who is just about to rise in the ranks of the sport. As time progresses, Kara begins to unravel the mysteries of a giant tech company working behind the scenes of this cruel sport.
The game looks heavy on the platform, with the trailer showing off plenty of high-flying antics as well as competitors sliding and jumping off walls. rollerdrom features a cel-shading graphic style that reminds us strongly of the adventure game’s graphics sable.
The game is developed by Roll7 and Private Division, the developer and publisher of the colorful action platformer and skateboarding game OlliOlli world. This was a 2.5D game from Roll7’s OlliOlli series in which you could skate through a variety of whimsical environments that looked California-inspired. rollerdrom sets a more dystopian tone for the studio’s work.
