Sega announces Mega Drive Mini 2 with Mega CD games

announces, drive, Games, Mega, mini, SEGA

Surprise ! Sega just unveiled its next mini retro console: the Mega Drive 2. Here’s what we can say about it and what information we have about it at the moment.

Sega introduces its Mega Drive Mini 2. This will be launched on October 27th and ships with 50 games, including Sega CD titles which rarely (if ever) have reissue rights. The information comes from Sega’s Japanese YouTube channel, but there are no details about the English channel yet.

It has not been confirmed that Mega Drive 2 will have a western release. However, given the success of previous consoles, it probably has every right to go down in our regions (fingers crossed very much).

50 games are up for grabs for this Sega Mega Drive Mini 2

We don’t have the full list yet, but here’s what we already know:

  • Silpheed (Mega CD)
  • Shining Force (Mega CD)
  • Sonic CD (Mega CD)
  • Mansion of Hidden Souls (Mega CD)
  • Potful Mail (Mega CD)
  • Virtua Racing (Mega CD)
  • Bonanzo Bros (Mega Drive)
  • Shining in the Darkness (Mega Drive)
  • Thunder Force IV (Mega Drive)
  • Magical Taruruto (Mega Drive)
  • Fantasy Zone (new Mega Drive port)

About fifty titles from the Mega Drive catalogue, but also that of the Mega CD. The reveal of the console starts around the 13th minute of the video, it doesn’t give us many details about the games and overall Sega is quite mysterious.

However, we can learn that accessories will make an appearance, such as the Mega Drive Tower Mini 2, which will contain an exact replica of the Mega CD 2 with the key to a Virtua Racing mini cartridge and a Sonic CD mini CD. For decoration, of course.

The Mega Drive Mini 2 will be released in Japan on October 27 and will retail for 9,980 yen ($75). It remains to be seen until there is an official announcement about a possible western release.
