Some time ago, SEGA launched the Mega Drive Mini, a retro console that let you relive classics from days gone by. Now there should also be a successor.
SEGA has announced the Mega Drive Mini 2 and then brings back the retro console in a fresh variant. This time, 50 classic games are pre-installed on the Mega Drive Mini 2, which come from the days of SEGA CD and SEGA Genesis aka Mega Drive.
The new retro mini-console will initially be launched in Japan, where it will be released on October 27, 2022. The price should be 9,980 yen (about 75 dollars). Initially, SEGA did not name a date for other regions such as Europe or North America.
Installed games on the mini-console include Popful Mail, Shining Force CD, Silpheed, Sonic the Hedgehog CD, Virtua Racing and others. There is also a port of Fantasy Zone that was not released on the original console.
SEGA released the first such mini-console in 2019. At that time, the SEGA Mega Drive Mini had 40 pre-installed games. The controllers were based on the American three-button controller rather than the six-button version from Japan. Four quick-save slots, an HDMI output and support for 720p are further features of the platform.
