As time goes by, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remastered Seeing another delay, this time with no release targets.

After some speculation the Prince of Persia remake has been Cancel outright, Ubisoft It has now been confirmed to PC Gamer that it is still in development, but is no longer targeting a FY23 release.

The development of the remake was rather difficult, first announced in September 2020 with a release date of January 2021, then pushed back to March, and then again with no target release date, followed by confirmation of a 2022 release. More recently, the game’s development moved from Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai to Ubisoft Montreal, the studio behind the original Sands of Time trilogy.

“We’re proud of what Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai have accomplished, and Ubisoft Montreal will benefit from their learning as the new team continues to work hard to deliver a great remake,” a Ubisoft representative told PC Gamer.

“As a result, we are no longer targeting the FY23 release, and the game has been delisted. If players wish to cancel their pre-orders, they are invited to contact their retailer. They will be updated on the project as development progresses.”

To be clear, Ubisoft’s 2022-2023 fiscal year ends on March 31, 2023, so it’s entirely possible that the game will release in 2023. However, that doesn’t bode well for the game, given how difficult it was to develop.

Delays are one thing, but a full transition from two studios to one could mean a lot more work.

On top of that, a report earlier this year suggested that a new, standalone Prince of Persia game is in the works. Nothing has been confirmed since then, and we’ll have to wait longer to find out if it’s real, as Ubisoft didn’t hold its own showcase this June. But there will be a show later this year.
