Most, if not everyone, will have some kind of preference when it comes to Minecraft versions. Which one is better? Java or Bedrock?I’ll argue with Java, but the version wars may be over soon because Minecraft Java and Bedrock Edition can no longer be purchased separately on PC.
Minecraft is undoubtedly one of the best survival games out there, and it continues to receive new content and updates without overwhelming its player base. Mojang’s masterpiece first made its way to PC in 2011, with a Bedrock Edition of the game coming later in 2017. Now, as of June 7, 2022, these releases will be merged.
The original version of Minecraft, Java, was PC-exclusive, while Bedrock is a slightly different version that can be played on consoles and PCs. On PC devices, you can only purchase one version of the game at a time.
Mojang and Microsoft have been slowly working on a solution to this problem so players don’t need to buy multiple versions of the PC sandbox survival game.Right now, especially for PC players, there is only one version of Minecraft available to players; this version, called Minecraft Java and Bedrock Editionwill require a one-time purchase, and is “the standard and only product of the original Minecraft on Windows PC.
That’s great news for those who only own one version of Minecraft on PC; no matter which version you’re missing, you’ll get access to it for free.
The new version is currently rolling out through the Minecraft Launcher, and PC players will be able to play either version from June 7th or later. Any additional features of the version, such as cross-platform play and mod support, will not change.
Are you excited to see Mojang and Microsoft finally package two versions of Minecraft together? Just in time for Minecraft’s new update, The Wild, which will also be released on June 7th.
