Hideo Kojima is no stranger to leaks, and he and his friend and peer Norman Reedus accidentally shared the recent news that Death Stranding 2 was coming out. Fortunately, Kojima was fine, and he subtly joked about the situation on Twitter. This time around, however, Kojima Productions seems to be less than happy with the latest leak.
In a recent report from Try Hard Guides’ Tom Henderson, the reporter reported that he had seen footage of the game, which is said to be called an overdose, and could reprise his role as Death Stranding’s Margaret Cooley . That being said, the new game will be an IP completely separate from any Kojima’s previous adventures.
In the report, Henderson discussed footage he saw showing Margaret Cooley wandering the hallways. Henderson describes the game clip as a jump scare near the end, followed by the classic “GAME OVER” screen, and then “A Hideo Kojima Game… OVERDOSE”.
While there is no confirmation that the leak is actually genuine, Kojima Productions has been contacted to ask Henderson to delete his report. He declined the request, and while the report is currently down at the time of writing, it will be back online once Henderson updates it. You can see Henderson’s take on OVERDOSE here.
Kojima Productions are usually secretive fans when developing their games, revelling in fan surprises. Remember Phantom Pain? Unveiled at the 2012 Video Game Awards, the game starred a character strikingly similar to Metal Gear Solid Snake. While it didn’t take long for detectives to discover that this was a well-designed new MGS title, it was fun to figure out.
With that in mind, I can imagine the developers at Kojima Productions might not be so happy right now, but I’m sure they’ll find a way to make any official reveal whimsical to their fans, either way.
While no leaks are a trusted source of information, Tom Henderson does have some solid leaking history. It’s only a matter of time before we see if OVERDOSE is really Kojima Productions’ latest project.
In other news, horror game leaks seem to be on the rise lately, and there’s a lot of talk about the future of Silent Hill at the moment.
