Creative construction kit, survival game, community platform: Minecraft caters to many different tastes. With Minecraft: Dungeons there was even an action role-playing game that took a completely different direction.
Now former Giant Bomb journalist Jeff Gerstmann is reporting on one that is said to be in development Minecraft strategy game. We reproduce the leak and clarify how likely we think the information is.
What the leaker claims
Gerstmann explains in his podcast Twitch, he saw pictures of an unnamed real-time strategy game in the Minecraft universe. But they wouldn’t have made it very clear how exactly the game works. He describes it as follows:
- Players will control a third-person view of a sort of Steve (the familiar default character) who commands units and fights Piglins and similar mobs.
- The game should contain cutscenes and a story.
Gerstmann further claims that some elements of the real-time strategy game are said to have not yet been fully developed. The leaker speculates that the Minecraft RTS may still have progressed far enough to warrant an early announcement.
Of course, this information is not official information. So keep that in mind before you get all edgy in anticipation.
When you get angular wantedwe bring you our fresh new exclusive interview as the developers talk about their big plans for the future of Minecraft:
Future of Minecraft
How it wants to remain exciting for another 50 years
How likely is that?
Minecraft is considered one of the most successful computer games of all time, both in terms of sales and active player numbers. It would therefore be anything but surprising if Microsoft wanted to put the huge workhorse in front of new cars.
Minecraft: Dungeons is probably the most prominent example of the effort to open up new genres with the big name. And that produced a decent action RPG, as our review shows:

Microsoft tried something similar with Minecraft Earth, which shifted the virtual blocks into augmented reality, but was discontinued in June 2021. The name alone does not seem to be a guarantee of success.
But he can help, after all, Minecraft has a gigantic community behind it. Accordingly, it would be quite conceivable that Microsoft also wants to conquer the strategy game genre with Minecraft. We’ll have to wait and see if the leak turns out to be true.
