Today, during Microsoft’s big Xbox and Bethesda video game showcase event, well-known game director and cinema lover Hideo Kojim presented himselfa seemed to announce that he’s working on his next game with Xbox, and um…Hmmm…
Microsoft spent almost an hour today presenting countless trailers and teasers for a laundry list of video games, most of which are coming to Game Pass. All of DiabloIV to a new historical mystery game from Obsidian vampires, carsand even some starfield playing style! It was a solid show. But right in the middle was a moment with Hideo Kojima.
There have always been rumors that Kojima would be working on a new game with Xbox and today those rumors were confirmed. But uh, just barely.
“There’s a game I’ve always wanted to make,” Kojima said of translated captions. “It’s a whole new game that no one has ever seen or experienced before. I’ve waited a very long time for the day when I could finally start creating it. With Microsoft’s cutting-edge cloud technology and the turnaround in the industry, it’s now possible to challenge myself to create this never-before-seen concept.
“It may take some time, but I’m excited to be working with Xbox Game Studios and hope to bring you some exciting news in the future!”
And…that’s it! No information on what kind of game it will be, what platforms, a name or even a code name… nothing!
It’s almost impressive how little Kojima had to share to be able to appear on tonight’s show. Checked the internet, it worked. People are already speculating as to why Kojima had to wait so long and what he might be using cloud technology for in his new game. And of course, online console fanboys locked in a never-ending console war are already using the gig to fuel the next round of forum wars and Twitter spats while proving how much they love their plastic consoles and brands.
Microsoft also made a big deal about how all the games shown during the event today would be released within the next 12 months. However, it seems unlikely that the project Kojima and his team are currently working on will be shelved before June 12, 2023. Xbox probably doesn’t count this project as no game was actually shown, but that feels kinda like cheating.
my box contacted Xbox regarding Kojima’s game and whether it will be released in the next 12 months.
I also hope to one day be so famous and popular that I can just show up my box and promise a great blog or review with a few quick words and a smile. But that day has yet to come, which is why you only read 464 Words.
