Descend into a limbo of decaying memories in this handcrafted Metroidvania.
Hello, we’re Plot Twist, a young but experienced studio on Poland’s indie video game map. We just unveiled our latest project called The Last Case of Benedict Fox at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase and we can’t wait to tell you more about it!
When we started the project, we knew we wanted to create a world you would believe in, tell a story you would remember, and design gameplay you would engage. We have taken care of that The Last Case of Benedict Fox a handcrafted Metroidvania experience.
By handcrafted we mean a seamless combination of the depth and richness of a Metroidvania with the immersive atmosphere of cinematic platformers. In other words, you’ll fight demons, solve intricate puzzles, and explore surreal maze-like locations while uncovering a twisted and intriguing storyline involving secret organizations, forbidden rituals, and cold-blooded murders.
One of the things that makes Benedict’s investigation special is his companion. Our detective was bonded to a demonic being at birth and their fates have been intertwined ever since. What is in itself an interesting piece of lore (let’s talk about that another time!) also has certain practical implications.
First of all, you can use the Companion’s powers to explore the minds of the recently deceased for your last chance to get a “Testimony”. These limbos are surreal worlds where memories, emotions and trauma take physical form. Forms that usually want to harm Benedict.
Then it becomes clear that a demonic companion is also a great asset in battle. Combine his powers (which include tentacles, of course!) with firearms and creative use of your environment to defeat the enemies – but remember, focus and a tactical approach are still your best allies.
We have much more to tell you The Last Case of Benedict Fox. We can talk endlessly about the noir fiction influences, the early 20th century jazz soundtrack, the Burton-esque art style, the dark history of a certain family… If you stumble upon a supernatural mystery, let’s keep in touch, until Benedict begins his investigations in spring 2023.
