Bethesda and Microsoft revealed yet another look at the ambitiousSkyrim in space” role-playing game starfield during today’s joint presentation by the two companies. This time it was much more than eight secondsand actually presented gameplay.

After some preamble, Xbox boss Phil Spencer presented a short film starfield Sizzle Reel before director Todd Howard took the stage to show the game in action. What was previewed looked like a mix of Hello Games’ Nobody’s heaven and Obsidian Entertainment The Outer Worlds, featuring the character mining rocks for resources and navigating a seemingly deserted planet. The character then gets into a combat encounter and pulls out an automatic rifle to shoot some space-faring jerks before the video switches to the hub world.

The showcase also gave a glimpse of the character creator, which is highly customizable. You can customize your appearance, how your character plays and develops throughout the game, and the various attributes that affect your gear. You can also customize a ship, recruit crew members, and launch the thing into space to engage in dogfights or cargo transport. Or both.

starfield is Bethesda’s first new IP in about 25 years. You play beyond the solar system as a customizable character who is a member of a space exploration organization called Constellation. The game can be played in either first or third person, similar to other Bethesda games The Elder Scrolls Online and Fallout 76. So if you can think of one of those games set in space then, well… that’s quite a lot starfield in short.
