Without the “E3” Dragon’s Dogma 2 announcement, is Capcom trolling us?

announcement, Capcom, dogma, Dragons, trolling

Capcom knows people want some news about the future Dragon’s Dogmabut the publisher seems to insist on coming up with the series, but just stop sharing any new information about the new project.

As with many of Capcom’s projects in development, there are Dragon’s Dogma 2 Leaked a while ago along with several other projects. Of course, the game hasn’t been officially announced, so every time the company calls the name, everyone gets excited and then nothing happens.

It all started about a month ago, when Capcom launched the Dragon’s Dogma 10th anniversary celebration website. Of course, everyone thought this was all headed toward some sort of reveal.

Instead, the site launched with some links to existing media and a brief look back at the history of the series. Overnight, Capcom hosted a full-scale showcase live.Again, we all have hope, maybe this will be this day.

Legendary designer and director of the original Dragon’s Creed, Hideaki Itsuno featured in the demo…announced yet another anniversary event: live stream on Thursday, June 16 at 3pm PT, 6pm ET, 11pm UK.

That’s it! The whole segment of Itsuno is a little over a minute – just for him to tell us about all the non-gaming areas Dragon’s Dogma has expanded into, and announce the anniversary video. Itsuno didn’t hint that the video might contain some sort of future trailer, other than that it would “talk about how and how Dragon’s Dogma came to be.”

It’s a little odd that Capcom wants to do all this just to celebrate the 10th anniversary of a franchise that’s effectively dormant. Why do all this work if you don’t want to hype new game releases?

Maybe Capcom isn’t ready to talk about Dragon’s Dogma 2 just yet. Publishers like – mostly – to reveal projects that are closer to their release goals. That’s all good, but we already know Itsuno decided to make Devil May Cry 5 rather than a sequel to the cult classic action RPG, so what’s up with him now, if not?
