Akane Austin Prepping for a game with scientifically mutated vampire slayers who have hijacked entire towns – despite marketing so far suggesting red fall Bringing a team of hunters to properly liberate a besieged town, Pete Hines, Bethesda’s senior vice president of marketing, said the game is still of interest to anyone who wants to try it out solo.
You’ve probably heard of Redfall, the once-delayed game from Arkane Austin’s development for Xbox Series X/S and PC. For the most part, it’s a co-op game that many have dubbed a “Left 4 Dead/Back 4 Blood-alike”, although recent reviews from Bethesda staff seem to suggest it has something to do with either of those games A big difference.
“It’s a first-person shooter that you can play solo or with up to four players,” Hines said during yesterday’s Xbox expansion showcase (thanks GamesRadar).
“So right off the bat, you might say, well, it’s not a single-player game, it’s definitely very different. Don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely in a different way. But I think when people play the game even if they see More games and I think they’ll start seeing all the things they love and appreciate about Arkane games.”
So what do we love and appreciate about Arkane games? Well, for the most part, it’s a good system that interacts to absurd degrees, strong narrative hooks, the freedom to approach the goal from different angles, and some deep lore. Will Redfall have all of this? It does sound so. As for that killer story?
“If you want to play the game yourself and get a great Arkane story, you can definitely do that in Redfall,” Hines noted.
Of course, Redfall comes from Arkane — you know, the people behind Dishonored, Dead Loop, and Prey. There’s a lot of “immersive simulation” in its DNA. Hines has previously said that Redfall is “very similar” to Arkane’s previous output in terms of design pillars. TL;DR? That’s almost as good for fans of single-player as it is for fans of multiplayer.
