In the 1980s, Steven Spielberg revolutionized the adventure film genre with his Indiana Jones film series. Since then, the adventurous archaeologist has been the benchmark, whether for Brendan Fraser’s “The Mummy” or Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in “Jungle Cruise”.
But the pirate genre also belongs to the adventure films and here “Pirates of the Caribbean” is probably the biggest hit. The film itself of course refers to older works to which it is a homage. But thanks to the humour, the fast-paced action and the gripping music, “Pirates of the Caribbean” was able to step out of the shadow of its role models.
