Supreme Eternal is the new game from the Spanish studio Eternal Game Studios. The title is a Roguelite with random dungeon spawning, fast-paced combat, and a flashy art style. We take on the role of the King of Darkness, doomed to eternal life, and explore multiple worlds full of very powerful traps, enemies and bosses. The game is the prequel to the studio’s previous title, eternal night.

The initial area

The game of Supreme Eternal is simple and effective, while becoming more complex over time. We have an area that serves as a base, the city. Here we can improve our character, improve and unlock weapons and more. In addition, each time we die, we appear at the portal of the area.

When we enter one of these worlds that we “seed”, it is automatically generated based on the seed we used. The worlds are made up of rooms of different sizes and shapes. In turn, they are divided into levels, each more complicated, reaching the end of the boss level.

Some rooms are special, like the shop or the rooms where we can choose a free weapon or a gem that provides them with effects.

We also have other rooms such as trees, which will give us several positive effectslike healing, damage boosts and others.

Another very interesting one is Death Roulette, where spinning the roulette involves acquiring a negative state and a positive state.. To get rid of the negative we will have to perform certain actions, such as opening a chest or eliminating x enemies. Once the condition is met, the negative effect will disappear while the positive will remain. One can also have conversations with death which are usually quite interesting.there’s even a reference to Death Note.

The last of the special rooms is the one with the portal, through which we will go to the next level of the world, changing the aesthetics and the enemies. We have to think carefully when to use it because we cannot go back and it is possible that we miss important things like upgrades or more powerful weapons.

We also have a map.that we unlock as we explore it. We can teleport between special rooms directly on the same map, there is no need to use statues or the like. We don’t have the possibility to put markers, since the map itself marks what is in each area.

When we’re done exploring, either because we’ve finished the world or because they kill us, we’ll earn rewards to keep moving forward. The rewards vary depending on what we have explored.

The combat system is quite simple as well as comprehensive and fun. We have two basic attacks, on the Xbox controller, with the X we hit at short distance and with the Y we throw the weapon. Once launched, you can recover it by pressing Y again or transport yourself there with the X. With the right trigger we make a dashboth on the ground and in the air and we have a double jump.

Each time you chain several hits in a row to an enemy, he will be stunned, which allows us to continue hitting without taking damage, although this does not always happen. We also have the possibility of trampling and jumping on enemies in addition to casting spells and using objects.

With these options available, the mobility of the character is very smooth and fast. Admittedly, anything related to movement and pacing of the game could be summed up as “fast.” We continuously move, kick and jump, making every match intense and, according to our capacities, more or less long.

During the exploration we find different weapons and gems. Gems provide different weapon benefits, such as bleeding, freezing, increased damage to enemies, and more.

As we progress and improve our weapons, we will do more damage and we will have more options available in combat, such as pistols, which allow us to have more range.

The variety of enemies

As for the variety of enemies, there is not much variety. JWe have the typical bases that are repeated in each area, such as knights or ghosts that fly and throw lightning. Then we have round, almost eye-shaped beasts with eyelids and legs that will attack us at the slightest, some spinning enemies and others imbued with electricity.

In each level of the worlds we will find specific enemies of each level. Of course, each time we enter a world, the enemies of each level will be the same.

In the game we also have elite enemies, with which we will have to be much more careful since they have more life and will do us much more damage.

As in all roguelites, impossible to miss the bosses, in this first version we were able to test two of them, a colossus and an “electric warrior”. While it is true that if you go with a good weapon it becomes quite simple with barely to dodge, at least in the case of Dantilus the colossus.

The graphics and sound section

Supreme Eternal It has a very colorful graphics section. It is very reminiscent of European comics or animation productions such as Castlevania. Everything we see is hand drawn using traditional 2D animation techniques and it shows.

The animations themselves are quite neat and are very smooth. Personally, the animation of the dash makes me very happy to do this.

As for the soundtrack, there is not much variety but the musical themes are very catchyBe careful, they will easily stick in your head.

Supreme Eternal it’s a very promising game. It aims to be the same or more fun than the previous episode, the seed system, upgrades, character movement, combat, it has everything to succeed. While it’s true that the enemy variety in Early Access is somewhat short and there are some repetitive situations, the scales are definitely on the positive side.

We look forward to more news from the studio regarding the game, We still don’t have an exact release date for the final version, so we’ll have to wait patiently. It will initially be available on PC but will come to other platforms later.
