Diablo Immortal has been on shaky ground for many fans of the Hack & Slay series since it was announced at BlizzCon 2018. Most didn’t want to see a mobile game, but Diablo 4. The displeasure with Immortal didn’t really subside after the release on June 2nd: Immortal is now heavily criticized because of the Pay2Win mechanics.
Der Twitch-Streamer Quin69 drastically illustrates the issue by attempting to snag a 5-Star Legendary Gem using real money. Since the release, he has buttered almost 15 dollars per attempt into the so-called elder portal in order to possibly get the object of desire. And that with a drop chance of just 0.05 percent!
Maurice explains how absurd the Pay2Win mechanism in Diablo Immortal really is and what exactly the gems are used for in the following video:

Diablo Immortal – This is Pay2Win from Hell
Goal achieved, account deleted
Almost two weeks and almost 15,000 New Zealand dollars later, the streamer has achieved its goal and snagged a 5-star gem. Altogether Quin69 paid 25,165.57 NZD (equivalent to 15,134 dollars) in the course of the process. During a tantrum afterwards, the streamer made some drastic decisions:
- First he threw the game off his hard drive.
- After a while, he realized he hadn’t taken a screenshot of the rare gem, so he reinstalled the game.
- On the spur of the moment, he decided to “destroy” the gem by using it on a rather useless 1-star item.
- Subsequently, Quin69 deleted his character, thus losing all progress and all his invested money forever.
- The New Zealander then finally uninstalled the game with the words: »Get off my computer, you don’t deserve to stay. Diablo 2: Resurrected, you can stay. Diablo 3, you’re walking on thin ice, but okay, I’ll allow it. Diablo Immortal? Get the hell out of here.”

This test pushes me to my limits
While streamers like Quin69 or Asmongold want to uncover the unfair mechanics with these actions, the chief developer defends the Pay2Win allegations. Whether he can actually win back the trust of the fans is questionable. Many Diablo players would rather wait for the fourth part of the main series.
